20 AUG 2013 - The world's largest ice cave is located in Werfen, Austria. We didn't want to miss this, but we had no idea just how challenging of an experience this would be for us all. The lines were long that day so there was quite a bit of standing around just to get on the tram that took you to the top of the mountain. Once we were there, we had a pretty good hike just to get to the cave entrance. Then before going into the cave, our guide tells us that we'll walk up 700 stairs once inside and nearly just as many coming back out. We thought that might kill Elaine and Eve, but both managed. The ice formations inside were awesome, but they didn't allow photography. We were able to take pictures of the entrance to the cave which had a pretty remarkable view.

The walk up to the cave from the tram station was steep and covered to prevent any rocks from falling on you. That was nice since there seem to be so many other ways for this experience to do you in. ;)
The walk from the parking area to the tram station wasn't an easy stroll either. There were a few bridges built over some massive drop offs along the way.
On our way back from the cave to the tram, everyone seemed to be in better spirits knowing we would be back to the van soon. The view from the tram station was just remarkable. So pretty.
On the way back down to the valley, we just had to stop and gaze at the amazing Hohenwerfen Castle situated across the valley.
